Grid stabilization refers to the ability to maintain consistent voltage and frequency levels across an entire electricity network. It ensures that the grid operates smoothly and reliably. Traditionally, large coal and gas power plants provided stability by generating electricity and contributing other essential factors like inertia, voltage control, and reactive power. However, as renewable energy sources (such as wind and solar) connect to the grid differently and lack these stabilizing properties, new approaches are needed.
Additionally, a battery energy storage system rapidly accepts or rejects power within a few cycles, enhancing grid stability. This approach helps manage grids with increasing amounts of renewable generation, supporting a transition toward a cleaner, more sustainable energy system.
